2013 Jon Sanfilippo

Sensei Jon W. Sanfilippo, a student of the martial arts for forty years, holds the ranks of 8th degree Black Belt in Judo (Hachidan), 7th degree Black Belt in Ju Jitsu (Shichidan) and 3rd degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do 
(Samdan). Other martial arts which he has studied include T'ai Chi Ch'uan, Chi Qong, Kendo, and the weapons of Nunchakus, Bo, Tonfa and Sai. He is a founder and head Sensei of the West Bend Judo and Korean Karate Club, which was formed in 1967. For 30 years he has directed the longest running and one of the most successful martial arts tournaments in Wisconsin.

The Sensei is a Trustee Life Member of the United State Martial Arts Association, a Trustee Life Member of the United States Judo Association where he is a National rank examiner, a Life Member of the United States Judo Federation, a Life Member of A.A.U. Judo, a member of United States Judo, Inc., and a member of the Universal Tae Kwon Do Association.

Jon holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Education. He has coproduced with his brother, Joseph, two educational programs for school systems, "Judo for the Physical Education Program" and "Teaching Proper Falling." He has produced state, national and international champions in the art of Judo. His most famous student, Lynn Roethke, won the only Olympic silver medal to date for the United States Women's Judo Team. She accomplished that feat at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, Korea. A winner of the 1987 World Championship Silver Medal in Judo, she also is the winner of two gold medals in the Pan American Championships, one in 
Judo and one in Sambo. Ms. Roethke trained with Sensei Sanfilippo since she was 6 years old.

Sensei Sanfilippo is proud of his 3 daughters: Kerri, 28 years old; Jessica, 20 years old; and Jennifer, 20 years old. All the girls started their martial arts training when they were 6 years old and all have won national Judo awards. Kerri is Assistant Sensei holding the rank of 5th degree Black Belt (Godan) in Judo, while Jessica and Jennifer both hold the rank of 3rd Degree Black Belt (Sandan) in Judo.
